"Discover the Legend of the West"

Welcome to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum, a private, non-profit museum whose mission is to bring the wonder, excitement, hardships and triumphs of the West to life for the entire family.  The museum provides exhibits and programs reflecting the history of Cheyenne Frontier Days, Cheyenne, Laramie County and the state of Wyoming.

The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum is a place where the West comes alive.  Explore the "Dust and Glory" of Cheyenne Frontier Days exhibit and learn about the American cowboy's life and the rigors of the rodeo.  Climb into an actual bronc riding saddle and try the classic spurring action of a pro rider... use modern technology and take an interactive CD-Rom tour through "Cheyenne Frontier Days" history... enjoy vintage films of the early parades and Native American dancers.  Travel through time with our horse drawn vehicle collection which includes the cite carriages to the every day working wagons.  Delight in our classic collection of Western art.  The "Hole in, the Wall" Kids Room provides an interactive hands on discovery room which enhances the museum's exhibits and provides a child and family learning experience in a fun environment.

Learn about the events, the pageantry, the cowboys and cowgirls and the jump-up-and-down excitement that brings more that 300,000 people to Cheyenne the last full week of July.  Get to know Will Pickett, the African-American cowboy who invented bulldogging by throwing a steer using only his teeth; Prairie Rose Henderson, a cowgirl bronc rider and "Midnight", dubbed the "Devil Horse" by cowboys who tried to ride him.

The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum houses one of the nation's largest carriage collections - more that 125 horse drawn vehicles ranging from carts to freight wagons.  A turn-of-the-century popcorn wagon...horse drawn hearse... authentic range chuck wagon... a stage coach used on the Cheyenne-to-Deadwood stagecoach run-they're all part of this fabulous collection of early day pioneer transportation collection.

Cheyenne's colorful past is captured in several exhibits throughout the museum.  Exhibits recall the role the Native Americans played in Cheyenne's Frontier past.

Take time to enjoy the museum's collection of traditional Western art.  Contemporary American artists capture the spirit of the Old West in oil, bronze, watercolor and pastel and subjects from mountain men to Wyoming's vast landscape.  The Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show and Sale, held during Cheyenne Frontier Days, is renowned for its hundreds of works of art.

The museum is located in Frontier Park, take the Central Avenue exit east off of I-25, continue on Central Avenue and turn right on Kennedy and left on Carey.
